Philadelphia The University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team finished in a tie for third place with host La Salle at the La Salle Invitational held at Belmont Plateau on Saturday afternoon.
The Red and Blue were led by senior Claire Duncan who grabbed the sixth fastest time in the 5k race. Duncan finished in 19:12.0, while rookie Stacy Kim came in 10th in a time of 19:45.4. Freshman Kathryn Urban performed strong as well grabbing the 13th place overall in a time of 19:55.9. Rounding out the scoring for the Quakers were freshman Kelley McGrath and Brigette Kolson who finished 40th and 56th, respectively. McGrath covered the course in 20:42.2, while Kolson clocked in at 21:14.5.
Vanessa Andes from East Stroudsburg won the meet with a time of 18:17.2. The University at Buffalo won the meet with 28 points followed by Moravian University with 71 points. Penn and La Salle took the third spot with 114 points each. The Quakers have next weekend off, but will return to competition at the Penn State Open on Oct. 16.
