Women's Cross Country Wins Fordham Invite


PHILADELPHIA—The University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team started off the 2006 season with a first-place finish at the Fordham Invitational Saturday in Bronx, N.Y. Penn registered 37 points, with junior twin sisters Claire Kim and Stacy Kim leading the Quakers byturning in fourth and fifth-place times, individually. The team score was well ahead of the second-place finisher St. Francis (Pa.), which had61 points.

“The team did a good job today,” said head coach Gwen Harris. “It is a good sign for the rest of the season, and the freshmen did very well.”

Seven Quaker runners finished in the top 20, withthree crossing justseconds apart from each other. Claire and Stacy Kim finished at 19:16 and 19:17, respectively. Sophomore Leah Brogan came in sixth with a time of 19:18. Newcomer Carol Xu rounded out the top 10 with a time of 19:31.

TheQuakers will look to continue their success on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Lock Haven Invitational in Lock Haven, Pa.
