Women's Fencing Drops Two on Saturday at Ivy Championships

Penn Day 1 Results

Princeton, N.J. - The Quakers lost a pair of matches that could have gone either way, opening the first day of the Ivy League Championships at Princeton with a 0-2 record.

Penn dropped a heartbreaker, 14-13 against Harvard in the first round of action and followed it with a 15-12 defeat at the hands of Columbia. Despite the two losses, epee was a bright spot for the team, as the trio of sophomore Amrit Bhinder, freshman Gabby Foor and senior Stephanie Wheeler won 7-2 in each match.

Against the Crimson, the Red and Blue won epee 7-2 but lost foil 7-2 and was edged 5-4 in sabre. Facing the Lions, a 7-2 victory from epee wasn't enough as Penn lost 7-2 in foil and 3-6 in sabre. Bhinder and Wheeler both finished the day with 5-1 marks tied for second among all Ivy epee fencers. Junior Dominika Franciszkowicz also finished with a record over .500, fencing to four wins in six bouts on the day.
