Women's Fencing Earns Three Wins at Elite Invite

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s fencing team picked up three wins on Saturday at the Elite Invitational in the Dave Micahnik Fencing Center. The Quakers, who were making their home debut, defeated Johns Hopkins (21-6), Air Force (20-7), and NJIT (21-6) en route to a 3-2 day on the strips.

Sophomore Arabella Uhry led the sabre squad to a 4-1 record, including a pair of 9-0 sweeps against JHU and NJIT. She ended up racking up a 10-2 record for the day.

Junior Alejandra Trumble posted an 8-3 record to lead an epee squad that went 3-2. Stephanie Wolf was also strong at 6-4 for the day.

Junior Shriya Joshi led the sabre squad, recording an 8-2 mark of her own.

The Quakers dropped tight matchups with Ohio State (15-12) and Notre Dame (17-10). Against the Buckeyes, Penn notched a 6-3 win on sabre, but was unable to recover from a 7-2 loss on foil.

The Quakers will be back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday, when they travel to the December North American Cup in Baltimore, Md. on December 4-7.
