Women's Fencing Finishes 4th at Ivy Round-Robins

PHILADELPHIA -- After dropping a close dual with No. 5 Columbia, the No. 7 University of Pennsylvania women's fencing team traded wins and losses, finishing fourth with a 3-3 record in the Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins held at Brown's Olney-Margolies Athletic Center in Providence, R.I.

On the first day of the round-robins, the Quakers faced CollegeFencing360 No. 5 ranked women’s fencing team – Columbia. Epee pulled out an 8-1 victory, with perfect 3-0 marks by freshman Alejandra Trumble and sophomore Srey Beaulac, but the Lions evened the score with an 8-1 victory in foil. With the dual riding on sabre, Columbia outlasted the Red and Blue (5-4), giving them the 14-13 dual win.

After dropping the close dual to the Lions, Penn regrouped and prepared for Cornell. The Quakers went on to win each of the weapons against the Big Red -- sabre 7-2, foil 5-4, epee 6-3 – and then the overall dual 18-9.

In round three, the Red and Blue went up against No. 3 Harvard. The Crimson was coming off a 15-12 loss to No. 1 Princeton, so Penn was looking to keep the trend going. However, Harvard wasn’t out of gas quite yet and defeated the Quakers, 22-5.

The Red and Blue closed out day one with a 21-6 victory over Yale, giving Penn a 2-2 record.

Day two of the round-robins began with No. 1 Princeton, where the Quakers suffered their third loss, but rebounded in the following round with a 15-12 win over Brown.
