Women's Fencing Finishes First Day at NCAAs

PHILDELPHIA – The Penn women’s fencerswho are participatingin the NCAA Championships have finished their first day of action.

In sabre, freshman Alexis Baran finished the day in 17th place overall, after earning five individual wins, while her teammate, sophomore Cassandra Partyka, stands in 22nd, with three bout wins.

Sophomore Abby Emerson was the Red and Blue’s top finisher, as she stands in seventh place overall, with nine bout wins in foil. Teammate Ilana Sinkin is in 13th overall, with six wins so far.

As a team, Penn sits in seventh place, with 87 total wins. Penn State took a huge lead today, after Columbia led for the men’s competition. The Nittany Lions have 150 total victories.

The women will continue fencing rounds 5-7 tomorrow morning, with gold medal bouts beginning at 2:30 p.m.
