Women's Fencing Finishes NCAA Championships

2008 NCAA Championships Results

COLUMBUS - After the women's competition at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships at Ohio State, Penn sits in eight place with 43 total victories. The Quakers had four fencers in individual competition - two of which finished with top ten peformances.

Junior captain Ilana Sinkin was the high finisher for Penn, taking ninth place in foil. Over the two days of competition, she accumulated 12 wins in her 23 bouts. This is her highest finish at the NCAAs in three appearences.

Freshman Danielle Kamis ended her first entry to NCAAs with a tenth-place finish in sabre. She also won 12 bouts over the two days of competition and finished only six wins out of the medal round.

Kamis was joined in the sabre field by Alexis Baran. In her second trip to the National Championships, Baran finished 17th, with nine wins.

Zoya Abdikulova was the fourth Quaker fencer to compete in Columbus. In her first trip to NCAAs, the senior more than held her own, ending competition with ten wins and a 13th place finish.
