Women's Fencing goes 2-3 at Penn State Invitational

University Park, Pa. - Facing a slew of highly ranked competition, the Quakers fenced their way to a 2-3 record on Saturday at the Penn State Invitational.

Facing Duke in their opening bouts, the Red and Blue dropped all three weapons in falling to the Blue Devils 17-10. Foil and epee lost by matching 5-4 scores while sabre fell 9-0. The Quakers responded with a strong performance against defending national champion and second-ranked Penn State, but still lost 16-11. Sabre captured a 5-4 win but epee (5-4) and foil (7-2) both lost to the Nittany Lions.

Taking on the ninth-ranked Temple Owls, Penn won epee 5-4 but it wasn't enough as the Quakers lost 18-9. The Red and Blue came back with a vengeance against North Carolina, sweeping all three weapons for the 23-4 win. Foil posted a perfect 9-0 mark while epee and sabre each won seven bouts.

In the Quakers final action of the day they didn't allow Drew to win a single bout, posting a perfect 27-0 victory as all three weapons won 9-0.

The 2-3 mark pushes the Quakers' record to 6-4 on the season. Penn returns to action next Sunday, fencing at the Eric Soule Invitational hosted by MIT.
