Philadelphia, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania women's fencing team went 3-2 onSaturday at the Temple Multi Meet. The Quakers defeated St. John's, 15-12, Northwestern, 18-9 and Cornell, 21-6 and fell to Columbia, 15-12 and Penn State, 16-11, on the day.
Against Columbia, the Quakers won the sabre, 8-1, but fell in the foil, 7-2, and in the epee, 7-2. The Red and Blue won the sabre against St. John's, 8-1, lost the foil, 6-3 and the epee, 5-4. Against Penn State, the Quakers won the sabre, 5-4, but then fell in the foil and the epee, 6-3.
The Quakers won all three weapons in their match against Northwestern, winning the sabre, 6-3, the foil 5-4 and the epee, 7-2. They then defeated Cornell by winning the sabre, 9-0 and the foil 8-1 before falling in the epee, 5-4.
The Penn women's fencing team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 26 when they will compete at the IFA's in Providence, R.I.
