Women's Fencing Wins Two at Northwestern Duals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s fencing squad went 2-4 at the Northwestern Duals on Saturday. The Quakers notched triumphs over Air Force (18-9) and Stanford (16-11), while dropping contests to UC-San Diego (14-13), No. 5 Northwestern (20-7), No. 6 Ohio State (19-8), and No. 2 Notre Dame (24-3).

The foil and sabre squads each notched 3-3 records, with Kathryn Khaw (sabre) and Naomi Popkin (foil) leading the way. Khaw racked up a team-high 10 victories, and also registered the Red and Blue's best winning percentage at .625.

Popkin racked up a 9-9 mark to lead the foil squad, with Simone Unwalla not far behind with an 8-10 record of her own. Cassidy Seidl went 5-2 on the day.

On epee, it was Stephanie Wolf and Katherine Sizov who notched the most wins. Wolf posted an 8-10 mark, while Sizov was 7-11.

Foil and epee each notched wins in the narrow loss to UC-San Diego, while the sabre squad was Penn’s only weapon win over Ohio State.

The Quakers are now on to their first post-season event of the season next weekend. Penn will be off to Cornell to compete in the Ivy League Championships on February 6-7.
