PHILADELPHIA - In its final event before the Ivy League Championships next weekend at Baltusrol, the Penn women's golf team is in action against many of its conference foes this Friday and Saturday at Columbia'sRoar-EE Invitational. The 36-hole event, now in its fourth year, will be held at the par-72 Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y.
All seven Ivy League teams are participating, along with seven non-conference squads to form the 14-team field. Play will begin at around 11 a.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Quakers' lineup will feature the senior triumvirate of Catherine Elliott, Meredith Kotowski and Lisette Vitter, as well as sophomore Tiffany Cheung and freshman Isabel Han.
Two weeks ago, Vitter was Penn's top finisher at the Hoya Invitational. Cheung has been No. 2 in the lineup in both events this spring, and tied for second overall at last year's ROAR-ee. Elliott, meanwhile, is playing maybe the best golf of her collegiate career this spring. Add in the veteran play of Kotowski and the solid first year by Han, and it seems the Red and Blue lineup is poised to make some noise over the next few weeks.
"This weekend will be a great opportunity to see how we play compared to the other Ivy League schools," said head coach Mark Anderson. "The event at Columbia will feature all of the Ivy teams and will be a great preview for what we will face at Ivies. The women are all in midseason form, and I know they have the potential to finish at the top of our next two events. We have beaten all of the Ivy teams at some point throughout the last season -- for one round or for an entire tournament. The women have worked hard, and they are ready finish the season on a high note."
