EDWARDS, Colo.- The Penn women's golf team completed play at the 54-hole Golfweek Challenge on Wednesday, finishing 17th out of 18 teams in a tough national field. The three-day event took place on the par-72 Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club.
The Quakers -- the only Ivy League team in the field -- shot 313-325-321--959 and finished ahead of Western Michigan (971). Oklahoma was the team champion, shooting a team 899 to defeat UC-Davis by five shots. Tulsa was third (906), followed closely by Pepperdine (907).
The Sooners also took home the individual champion hardware, as Chirapat Jao-Javanil shot 70-75-72--217 (+1) to top the 90-player field. Three players were three shots behind her and tied for second.
For Penn, sophomore Michelle Lee finished with a strong 73 on Wednesday which pushed her to a three-round 231 and tied her for 34th in the field. Lee shot a 74 on Monday and an 84 on Tuesday.
Senior Tiffany Cheung shot a 73 on Monday, an 81 on Tuesday, and an 84 Wednesday to finish at 238. She tied for 61st overall.
Junior Isabel Han shot 85-80-81--246 and was alone in 80th place, while freshman Amanda Chin made her debut for the Quakers and carded 81-85-83--249 to tie for 81st. Sophomore Rui Li shot 86 on Monday, then scored for the Quakers with an 80 on Tuesday. However, she was injured during the second round and was forced to withdraw for Wednesday's final round.
Penn returns to action this weekend at the Princeton Invitational, a 36-hole event that will run Saturday and Sunday.
