BEALLSVILLE, Md.- The Penn women's golf team finished eighth out of 17 teams atGeorgetown's Hoya Invitational, which concluded Tuesday afternoon at par-72 The Members Club at Four Streams.
The Quakers shot a 331 in Tuesday's round and finished the tournament at 649, which was one stroke behind Columbia and one ahead of ninth-place Rutgers. Nova Southeastern won the team title, carding 303-309--612 to defeat Maryland by four strokes. Among Ivy teams, Yale (308-329--637) was fifth, Columbia (322-326--648) was seventh, and Brown (337-334--671) was 12th.
Senior Lisette Vitter had Penn's best round on Tuesday, allowing her to finish as the team's low scorer. Vitter's 79 gave her a two-round total of 160 which tied her for 17th overall. Fellow senior Catherine Elliott (76-86--162) and sophomore Tiffany Cheung (79-83--162) were tied for 27th, while senior Meredith Kotowski (82-84--166) tied for 43rd overall. Freshman Elizabeth Kresock had one of Penn's scoring rounds on Tuesday, carding an 85; she finished at 169 for the tournament and tied for 51st overall. Overall, 90 golfers completed the tournament.
Sandra Changkija (72-71--143) and Maria Garcia Austt (75-76--151) went first and third, respectively,to lead Nova Southeastern; they sandwiched Maryland's Jessie Hollandsworth (73-74--147), who took second overall.
Penn returns to action April 16-17 in Columbia's ROAR-ee Invitational, the last test before the Ivy League Championships which take place April 23-25.
