BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The Penn women's golf team had another fifth-place finish this week, this time at the Hoya Women's Invitational hosted by Georgetown. The 54-hole event wrapped up Tuesday at the par-72 The Members Club at Four Streams.
The Quakers shot 313 in Tuesday's final round, their best score of the tournament, and left them seven shots ahead of host Georgetown. It was also 10 strokes better than Richmond, with whom Penn was tied entering the final round. Old Dominion won the team title, carding a three-round 944 to beat three teams by three strokes (Eastern Michigan, St. John's, Nova Southeastern).
In a 67-player field, Penn had two women who earned top-10 finishes. Senior Tiffany Cheung carded a 74 on Tuesday, while junior Isabel Han shot a 76. That put both of them at 235 for the tournament, and tied them with Samantha Morrell (ODU) in seventh place.
Freshman Amanda Chin shot an 83 on Tuesday and ended the tournament at 242, tying for 21st. Elizabeth Kresock had the Quakers' third-best score on Tuesday, an 80, and she finished tied for 33rd with an overall 247. Olivia Chang carded an 89 on Tuesday and ended the tournament in 62nd place at 274. Libby Hooton was also in the field, playing as an individual; she shot an 87 on Tuesday and finished at 272 for the tournament, which tied her for 60th place.
ODU's Elizabeth Haycock was the individual medalist. She shot a three-round 223 to best Harin Lee (St. John's) and Abbey Gittings (Nova SE) by three strokes.
The women will play this Sunday and Monday at the Brown Invitational, the team's final tuneup before the Ivy League Championships which will take place April 27-29.
