Women's Golf Finishes Up at NCAA West Regional

STANFORD, Calif. - The Penn women's golf team finished up at the NCAA West Regional Saturday evening, and ended up 24th in the 24-team field at the 54-hole event. Penn -- which entered the event as the 23rd seed -- shot 325 as a team on Saturday, finishing at 977 for the tournament.

Playing her last round for the Red and Blue, senior Lisette Vitter finished as Penn's low scorer on Saturday with a 79. She played the first eight holes at 1-over par, and was still just three over with four holes to play before ending the day with a 79. Because her first-round score was disqualified, Vitter was recorded as a DNF in the 122-player individual field.

Sophomore Tiffany Cheung was one shot behind Vitter on the day, carding an 80. She bogeyed two ofher first three holes Saturday, but settled down and went over par just five more times on the day en route to her round. Freshman Isabel Han, meanwhile,carded an 82 on Saturday. Overall, both Cheung and Han finished at 239 for the tournament and were in a group of golfers who tied for 96th.

Playing their final rounds for Penn, seniors Meredith Kotowski and Catherine Elliott both carded 84s on Saturday. Kotowski ended the event at 247, and was tied for 113th overall, while Elliott shot 257 this weekend and tied for 118th.

The eight teams that advanced to the NCAA Championships from the West Regional were Arizona, UCLA, Texas, Alabama, Virginia, Stanford, San Jose State and Texas A&M. The NCAAs will take place May 18-21 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert and Virginia's Callie Nielsen tied for medalist honors this weekend. Nielsen shot 71 on Saturday, while Ziegert fired a 73, and both ended the tournament at 1-over par 214.
