GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Penn women's golf team had another solid effort at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina, finishing fourth in the 16-team field after Tuesday's final round.
The Quakers shot 293 in Monday's first round and followed that up with a 296 in the afternoon, putting them in second place. On Tuesday, Penn carded 301 as a team and finished at 890, 38 over par. Maryland won the team title, shoooting 292-294-290--876 to defeat host ECU by five strokes. Augusta State was third, at 887. UNC-Wilmington finished just behind Penn, at 893, while Memphis was the only other team to break 900 as a squad with an 896.
Penn's players were packed together all tournament. In the end, freshmen Michelle Lee and Rui Li finished in a group that tied for 13th overall at 222, 9-over par. Lee went 73-77-72 to get her 222, while Li shot 72-72-78. Right behind them and tied for 19th in the field was sophomore Isabel Han, who carded 73-75-75--223. Junior Tiffany Cheung shot 75-76-76--227 and was alone in 31st, while freshman Olivia Chang carded 76-73-79--228 and tied for 32nd. Playing as an individual, sophomore Elizabeth Kresock shot 83-82-81--246 and finished 81st.
Maryland's Christine Shimel took medalist honors in the 93-player field, finishing 1-under par with a 71-72-69--212. That was four shots better that Augusta State's Natalie Wille (71-73-72--216).
Penn is right back in action this weekend, competing in the Harvard Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
