Women's Golf Heads to Yale This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a solid performance in its opening tournament of the 2014 fall season, the University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team gets right back into action this weekend at the Yale Women’s Fall Intercollegiate. The event will run Friday through Sunday on the Yale Golf Course, which is listed as playing at par-71 and measuring 6,044 yards for the weekend.

Penn is one of five Ivy League teams in the field; along with the host Bulldogs, which will have two teams in the field, there is also Brown, Dartmouth and Harvard. The field also includes Albany, Boston College, Boston University, Central Connecticut, LIU Brooklyn, Quinnipiac, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, West Florida and Xavier.

The teams will play 18 holes each of the three days; they will have tee times throughout Friday and Saturday morning, and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

“We played well here last year, finishing third with four freshmen in the starting lineup,” said head coach Mark Anderson. “We have had some strong individual performances here over the years. It will be nice to test our games against five of the seven Ivy teams this weekend.”

Penn will have four of the five women who played last weekend at Navy in sophomores Isabella Rahm -- who took medalist honors at Navy -- Sophia Chen, Marissa Kay and Franchesca de la Torre. They will be joined by freshman Michelle Yom in the lineup. Another freshman, Tiffany Yau, will play the event as an individual.

“We are missing senior Amanda Chin, as she has an interview in Boston,” said Anderson. "As a result, the depth of our team will be tested this week with four sophomores and one freshman in the lineup.”
