Women's Golf Heads to Yale This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off its season-opening tournament last weekend at Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team is right back in action this Friday through Sunday at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will feature one round each day on the famed Yale Golf Course.

The field will include two teams from the host Bulldogs as well as 16 other schools. In addition to Penn, Dartmouth will represent the Ivy League. Teams are scheduled for an 11 a.m. shotgun start on Friday; an 8 a.m. start on Saturday based on Friday’s results; and a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday. Yale Golf Course that plays at par-70 and measures 6,044 yards.

Penn’s lineup will be freshman-laden this weekend, with only junior Amanda Chin outside of that class. The others will include Marissa Kay -- who was the Quakers’ low scorer last weekend at Princeton -- Sophia Chen, Isabella Rahm, and Franchesca de la Torre.

“I am looking for the team to learn from their experience last week at Princeton,” said head coach Mark Anderson. “Marissa played very well last week, but it could have been even better. I would like to see two or three players step up this week and play like I know they can.

“We have a very young team heading to Yale this week (four freshmen and one junior), but they have a ton of potential. They worked hard the past two days and are all looking to improve last week’s performance. I know as this team gets more comfortable this fall they will play some very solid golf. We are focusing on improving our putting, short game, and mental game. If we can reduce the number of 3-putts and mental mistakes, we should finish in the top third of the large field at Yale.”
