Women's Golf Places Third at Spider Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - The Penn women's golf team had another record showing Monday and Tuesday at the Spider Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.

The Quakersplaced third overall in the field of 15 teams, carding 316-297--613 to finish behind only Maryland (303-299--602) and Longwood University (302-307--609).

Penn's second-round 297 was a program mark for single-round score, and the 613 was a two-round record. The Quakers shared the lowest team score of the second round with Penn State, which finishedfourth (615) while Marshall and Richmond tied for fifth (622). Brown was the only other Ivy League institution in the field, and the Bears placed 12th (655).

Individually, senior Catherine Elliott led the way as she recorded a collegiate-low 72 in the second round. That complemented her first-round 76 for a two-round score of 148, which tied her for fourth in the field of79 golfers. Freshman Isabel Han tied for 12th overall (79-74--153), while Tiffany Cheung (81-75--156) and Lisette Vitter (80-76--156) were among a group of golfers tied for 21st. Senior Meredith Kotowski (83-81--164) tied for 57th.

Richmond's Carline Lovette took home medalist honors; she tied Longwood's Kameron Carter -- both shot 146 for thetwo days --then defeated her with apar on the first playoff hole.

Penn returns to action with the Lehigh Invitational this weekend, which will compete the fall portion of the schedule.
