PHILADELPHIA – Just four weeks shy of the Ivy League Championships, the University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team will finally tee off its 2015 spring season this Thursday and Friday at the Pirate Invitational, being hosted by Seton Hall University.
The 36-hole tournament -- 18 on Thursday, 18 on Friday -- will take place on The New Course at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. Penn is one of 12 teams in the field, which includes Ivy rivals Columbia, Princeton and Yale. The other teams include the host Pirates, Boston College, Central Connecticut, Georgetown, Georgia, LIU-Brooklyn, Rutgers, and St. John’s.
Penn will tee of on Thursday with senior Amanda Chin; sophomores Sophia Chen, Erin Lo and Isabella Rahm; and freshman Allison Wong.
“I am very excited about our first event of the season,” said Penn’s head coach, Mark Anderson. “It has certainly been a struggle for teams in the northeast this spring to get outside and play. We have been fortunate to get some time on the course, which certainly helped in our preparation for this event. We have also been working hard in our indoor facility on campus, and I feel good about where the team is right now. We will be facing a few Ivy League teams at Seton Hall, so we will get a good idea of how we are positioned as we head into the Ivy League Championships later this month.”
