Women's Golf Seventh After First Day of Hoya Invite

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The Penn women's golf team is in seventh place out of 17 teams after the first day of the Hoya Invitational, being held at the par-72, 6,127-yard The Members Club at Four Streams.

Facing inclement weather that cut down Monday's play from two rounds to one, the Quakers shot 318 as a team, putting they three strokes behind host Georgetown and three ahead of eighth-place Rutgers. Penn is one of four Ivy League teams in the field -- Yale is tied for second overall with Maryland, both at 308 which is five strokes behind team leader Nova Southeastern. Columbia is ninth (322), while Brown is 13th (337).

Individually, senior Catherine Elliott led the way as Penn's low scorer; she carded a 76 that puts her in eighth place overall. Sophomore Tiffany Cheung (79) is tied for 26th overall, senior Lisette Vitter (81) is tied for 33rd, and senior Meredith Kotowski (82) is tied for 41st. Freshman Elizabeth Kresock (84) is tied for 52nd.

Sandra Changkija of Nova Southeastern is in the lead after Monday's round; her 72 put her a stroke ahead of Maryland's Jessie Hollandsworth and two ahead of Rutgers' Jeanne Waters. Overall,90 golfers completed Monday's round.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday with a final round that start at 8:30 a.m.
