NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Penn women's golf team finished in a tie for 17th place this weekend at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate, the team's first tournament of 2008-09.
It was Penn's first tournament action under new head coach Mark Anderson.
The Quakers shot 330 in the only round played, due to the inclement weather. The teams had play suspended, and rather than pick up where players had left off from Saturday -- in some cases, up to 17 out of the 18 holes -- tournament officials decided to play a fresh round on Sunday, and that was the only score that counted in the event.
Freshman Tiffany Cheung was Penn's top finisher; she shot 5-over-par 76 to tie for 14th overall. Junior Lisette Vitter carded an 8-over-par 79 to tie for 38th overall, followed by Catherine Elliott (83/tied for 64th) and freshman Elizabeth Pettie (92/tie for 92nd).
Penn is back in action this weekend, traveling to Williamsburg, Va. to take part in the ECAC Championships. The event will run Saturday and Sunday.
