Women's Golf Takes Second at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Penn women's golf team enjoyed its second straight standout performance of the fall this weekend at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate. The Quakers placed second out of 13 teams, scoring 301-318--619 over two rounds played Saturday at the Yale Golf Club, which played to par 71. (Sunday's final round was cancelled due to inclement weather)

Penn's first-round 301 is believed to be a team record for a single round, ahead of the 305 the Quakers shot last weekend at Princeton, and it gave them a 10-shot lead heading into the second round.

Harvard took the team championship, overcoming Penn'sfirst-round advantage with a stunning second round to card 311-299--610. The Crimson werefollowed by Penn and then Boston College (621). Yale (626) and Brown (638) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Individually, Penn was led by freshman Isabel Han who carded the lowest single round and overall score. She carded 73-80--153 and finished tied for sixth overall. A pair of seniors, Meredith Kotowski and Catherine Elliott, were close behind at 155 -- Kotowski shot 77-78 on the weekend, while Elliott went 74-81. Another senior, Lisette Vitter, placed 29th overall with 81-79--160. Sophomore Tiffany Cheung scored for Penn in the first round, with a 77, but withdrew from the second round.

Michele Holzworth of Fairleigh Dickinson won the individual title, carding a 68-73--141 to finish eight strokes ahead of Harvard's Mia Kabasakalis.

Penn returns to action this weekend at the ECAC Championships, which will take place in Williamsburg, Va.
