Women's Golf Tees it Up For The Spring

PHILADELPHIA -The Penn women's golf team opens its 2010 spring season this Monday and Tuesday, as one of 10 teams participating in the annual UNC-Wilmington Lady Seahawk Classic. The Quakers are the only Ivy League team in the field.

The Lady Seahawk Classic is a 54-hole event and will be played at the par-72, 6,012-yard River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. both Monday -- when the teams play 36 holes -- and Tuesday.

This is the first of four events for the women this spring, leading up to the Ivy League Championships at the end of April. The Quakers' lineup Monday and Tuesday will feature seniors Catherine Elliott and Meredith Kotowski, sophomore Tiffany Cheung, and freshmen Isabel Han and Elizabeth Kresock.

"This is our first tournament of the year, but I feel like the women have really worked hard this spring and are ready to play," said second-year head coach Mark Anderson. "I'm sure we will start the year off much better than we did last year. This spring I hope we are able to improve every week, and peak at the Ivy League Championship at Baltusrol. If the girls are on their games, they will be right in the hunt. I know the team is capable of winning another tournament and finishing the season as one of the top 100 teams in the country."
