PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team is ready to tee off the fall portion of its 2014-15 season this Saturday and Sunday at the second annual Chesapeake Bay Invitational. The 14-team tournament is being hosted by Navy, and will have the teams playing 36 holes on Saturday and a final 18 on Sunday at the par-72 Naval Academy Golf Club.
In addition to Penn, the Ivy League will be represented at this event by Dartmouth. The other teams are the host, Navy, as well as Delaware State, Hofstra, Lehigh, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Randolph Macon, Richmond, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis (Pa.), Towson, and Wagner.
“This is our first event of the season, and although we have been preparing for the past three weeks it is the first competitive round for some of our players since Ivies last spring,” said head coach Mark Anderson, who enters his seventh season with the Quakers. “We haven't played in Navy's tournament before, but have had a good bit of success on courses that the team has not been on before. I am looking for a strong finish for the team to get the season off on the right foot.
Penn’s lineup for this first tournament of 2014-15 will be familiar to those who followed the program in 2013-14; senior Amanda Chin will be joined by sophomores Isabella Rahm, Marissa Kay, Franchesca de la Torre, and Erin Lo. One of the program’s three newcomers, Allison Wong, will play the tournament as an individual.
“We did not have any freshmen crack into our top 5 during qualifying, but they were close,” said Anderson. “Allison Wong will be playing her first competitive round for Penn as an individual.”
