Women's Golf Third After First Day at Hoya Invite

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is tied for third place out of 14 teams after one day of competition at the Hoya Invitational. The 54-hole event is being hosted by Georgetown University on the par-72, 6,125-yard The Members Club at Four Streams.

Penn shot 302 in Monday's first round, then came back with a 313 in the afternoon to finish the day at 615. That is behind only Campbell (299-305--604) and Yale (304-307--611), and tied with Seton Hall (305-310--615). Nova Southeastern is in fifth place, at 621. The only other Ivy League team in the field, Brown, shot 661 on the day iand is ninth overall.

Individually for the Quakers, sophomore Amanda Chin had an outstanding day that ended with her in third place among the 80 golfers in the field. Chin shot 72-75--147, leaving her just one stroke out of the lead.

Senior Isabel Han and junior Michelle Lee are tied for 10th place with each other; Han shot 75-78--153 on Monday, while Lee carded 76-77--153. Senior Allison Oakes shot 79-83--162 and is tied for 32nd overall, while Elizabeth Kresock shot 84-85--169 and is tied for 51st after Monday's action.

Campbell's Lisbeth Brooks (74-72--146) and Harin Lee of St. John's (73-73--146) are tied for first place, one shot ahead of Chin, while Yale's Seo Hee Moon is in fourth place (76-72--148).

The teams will play a final round beginning Tuesday morning.
