Women's Golf Ties for Eighth at Springlake Invitational

SEBRING, Fla. - The Penn women's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Springlake Invitational, which concluded Saturday at the 5,920-yard Springlake Golf Resort in Sebring, Fla. The event was hosted by Northern Illinois University.

The Quakers shot a second-round 312, giving them a two-round total of 622 which tied them with Florida Atlantic for eighth. Methodist University won the tournament's team title, carding 299-297--596 to down Lynn University by three shots. They were the only teams to break 600 for the two-round event.

Lisette Vitter was Penn's top finisher; the freshman tied for secondoverall after shooting a 73 to go with her first-round 71 from Friday. Vitter's total of 144 waseven par for the tournament, and tied for second with Heather Hagerman of Florida Gulf Coast just one stroke behind champion Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn of Florida Atlantic (70-73--143).

Junior Meg Bender (82-78) and Meredith Kotowski (79-81) both carded 160 for the tournament and tied for 43rd place, while Stephanie Stamas shot 78-85--163 to tie for 49th and Catherine Elliott fired 87-80--167 to tie for 56thon the weekend.

Two Penn players competed as individuals: Shara Venezia-Walerstein (91-93--184) and Jaclyn Kouch (95-93--188).

The Penn women will be back in action March 24-25, when they compete in the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
