Women's Indoor Track & Field to Open Season at Bison Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., will be the host for the season opener for the 2008-09 University of Pennsylvania women’s track and field team as the Bison Opener is set to begin Saturday at 9 a.m.

The first event for the Quakers in the 11-team meet starts at 9:30 a.m. with the long jump and triple jump. Penn will finish the day at 3:50 p.m.

Penn returns 32 of the team’s 41 letterwinners from a year ago, including senior Camille Richard, who earned All-East honors in the indoor triple jump last season. Senior Kinjal Parikh is also returning after earning All-Ivy and All-East honors in 2006 in the indoor 3,200-meter relay. Senior Whitney Tagliavini also sports previous All-East honors as she earned the distinction in the indoor long jump in 2006.

This season-opening event will be the only meet for the Quakers in the month of December with the track and field season kicking into full gear in January when Penn heads to the Penn State Open on Saturday, Jan. 17.
