PHILADELPHIA – As head coach Karin Brower Corbett begins her 12th season at Penn, she does so on the heels of a fourth-straight Ivy League championship and four NCAA Tournament appearances. To re-load the Quakers in 2011, Corbett has added 11 players to her lineup.
The group includes nine high school All-America honorees and an All-Tewaaraton Foundation team member in Courtney Tomchik. The recruiting class features 10 freshmen and one sophomore transfer in Katie Matz who attended Syracuse before her arrival in University City. In total, the 11 newcomers hail from six states – two each from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut as well as one from Virginia. Nine of the players are listed as midfielders while Matz is an attack and Carly Churchill plays in goal.
“This is an extremely athletic and talented group,” Corbett said. “They work hard both on the field and in the classroom and are eager to learn. I have no doubts that this class will carry on the success and tradition currently present at Penn.”
