PHILADELPHIA – With nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances to its credit, the University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team has announced a 2016 schedule which includes matchups with four tournament teams from 2015 – including national champion Maryland and national semifinalist Duke.

“Our goal every year is to play deep into May,” said head coach Karin Corbett. “Our 2016 schedule is challenging in that it features four of the final eight teams playing in last year’s NCAA Tournament and those games will be a strong barometer of what we can accomplish in 2016. I think we took great strides last season to show what we can do against the country’s top teams, and our group is ready for that opportunity again this season.”

The 2016 regular season begins on February 20 with a home game against Delaware, the first of seven home games for the Quakers this spring.

The next weekend, Penn will head to Duke to take on the Blue Devils for the first time since 2012. Duke advanced to the Final Four last season, and finished the 2015 campaign ranked No. 4 in the country.

On March 23, Penn will host the defending national champion Maryland Terrapins at Franklin Field, marking the seventh consecutive season that the Quakers have played the Terps. The game with Maryland will mark the 10th consecutive season that Penn has played the defending national champion, and 11th time in 12 seasons.

After an Easter-weekend road trip to Dartmouth on March 27, Penn will open the month of April with a home game against Northwestern on April 3. One of Penn’s biggest rivalry games of the season, the Quakers will be looking to knock off the Wildcats – who finished 2015 ranked No. 6 – after an overtime loss in Evanston last season.

The game with Northwestern starts a three-game homestand for the Red and Blue, a run which includes the final two home Ivy League games of 2016. Following an April 9 game with Columbia, the Quakers will host Harvard on April 16 as part of Alumni Weekend.

The final three games of 2016’s regular season are all Ivy League games – and all on the road. Penn will test itself down the stretch, beginning with its annual showdown with Princeton on April 20. The Tigers ended Penn’s run of eight consecutive Ivy League championships last season, and won the meeting in the Ivy League Tournament championship game. Penn will conclude the regular season with road games at Yale (April 23) and Cornell (April 30).

The 2016 Ivy League Tournament is scheduled for May 6-8 at the home of the Ivy League’s regular season champion. The NCAA Tournament will begin on May 13, and concludes with the Final Four – once again at PPL Park in West Chester, Pa. May 27-29.

The Quakers return 12 letterwinners and six starters from a team which went 14-5 last season. Nina Corcoran – who set Penn’s single-season assists record last year with 40 – and Lely DeSimone are coming off second-team All-Region and second-team All-Ivy seasons and will lead a Penn attack which scored the fourth-most goals in a single season by a Penn squad.
