Women's Lacrosse Downs Cal-Berkeley, Manson Scores Five

BERKELEY, Calif.--The Penn women's lacrosse team defeated Cal-Berkeley 12-7, Tuesday with Rachel Manson leading the way with five goals. The Quakers improved to 3-1 on the season, while Cal dropped to 2-4.

The Bears scored the first goal of the day, but after trading goals, the Quakers led by one, 5-4, heading into the break. Emma Spiro and Barb Seaman both scored before Rachel Manson tacked on her first two goals of the game, 12 second apart, in the last minute of the half.

Giulia Giordano started things off in second with a goal at 8:38 and ended the game's scoring with a tally at 29:53. Penn got three more goals from Manson and one each from Spiro and Chelsea Kocis.

Cal's leading scorer Danni Zuralow scored two goals as did Sam Price.

The Quakers spread out the draw controls, but as a team outdid Cal in that category, 12-9.

Goalkeeper Sarah Waxman made three saves in the game while Morgan Dyson was peppered with shots and made 14 saves. Penn doubled Cal's shots in the game, 32-16.

The Quakers will return to the East Coast to open Ivy play on the road, Saturday March 15 at No. 13 Yale. Game time is set for noon.
