PHILADELPHIA--In addition to snapping Northwestern's 36-game winning streak, Penn women's lacrosse also ousted the 'Cats from the No. 1 position in the Inside Lacrosse media poll after 17 straight No. 1 rankings. The Quakers edged Northwestern by one point to claim the top spot.
The Red and Blue were also named tops in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, released Tuesday.
The top billing is a first for Penn in the history of eitherpoll.
Over the weekend, the then-No. 4 Penn women's lacrosse team did what no other team could in 36 games--beat then-No. 1 Northwestern. The Quakers shut out thethree-time defending national champion in the second half to take away a 11-7 victory. Penn also kept true to its 10-goal limit; no team this season has scored more than 10 goals on the Quakers.
