PHILADELPHIA - University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse Head Coach Karin Brower has named her captains for the 2007 season. Seniors Sarah Eastburn, Karen Jann and Chrissy Muller will lead the team this season.
The trio are each three-year starters. Eastburn and Jann anchor a solid Penn backline while Muller was the team's leading offensive player last season.
Eastburn returns after grabbing 16 ground balls and causing 15 turnovers last year. She was a second-team All-Ivy selection in 2005.
"Sarah has been a top defender for us for the last couple of years and leads by example with her hard work and support of her teammates," Brower said.
Jann has started every game of her career on defense for the Quakers. Last season she collected 19 ground balls and had 12 caused turnovers, and was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on April 10, 2006.
"KJ has one of the hardest majors here at Penn and still can dedicate herself fully to the team," Brower said of the architecture major. "She leads by example and is looked up to by everyone on the team as reliable and solid."
Muller led the teamwith 35points last season, scoring 19 goalswith a team-high 16 assists. She was named honorable mention All-Ivy and is currently third on Penn's all-time career assists list with 46.
"Chrissy has been a leader on the attack for Penn since her freshman year," Brower said. "She is calm and composed, andshe sets the tone for our attack. She has done a fantastic job this fall in leading the entire team."
Penn is coming off a 10-6 season in 2006 that saw the Quakers reach the 10-win plateau for the first time since 1982. The 2007 season will begin Feb. 24 with a 1 p.m. gameat neighborhood rivalDrexel.
