PHILADELPHIA--The No. 5 Penn women's lacrosse team dominated Drexel in a 10-4 win Saturday at Franklin Field. The Quakers' season opener featured a new set-up on midfield and attack, but kept true to the stingy defensethey have become known for in recent years. Junior Ali DeLuca scored three goalswhile senior Becca Edwards had a goal an two assists in her first outing back from injury last season.
Both teams were ready to score from the beginning. Penn waited just 36 seconds to get on the board when Courtney Lubbe connected with DeLuca. Lubbe had two goals of her own in the game. Drexel returned fire with a goal just 37 seconds later. Edwards gave Penn the lead again at 27:21 and Penn went on to score the next six goals to close out the half with an 8-1lead.
The break gavethe Dragonssome energy as they scoredthree minutes into the second half and went on to outscore the Quakers 3-2 in the period. It was not enough though as Penn came away with its first win of the season.
The Quakers are home again Friday, Feb. 27to host Cal at 6 p.m.
