Six-time defending Ivy League champion Penn will open the 2013 women's lacrosse season ranked inside the top-ten of the deBeer Women's Lacrosse Media Poll as the Red and Blue were voted No. 10 in the preseason poll.

The Quakers received 99 total points in the opening poll, tops among the three Ivy League programs inside the Top-20. The Red and Blue have won at least a share of the last six Ancient Eight crowns - including five outright championships. The run is the longest stretch of consecutive conference championships currently in existence among the nation's Division I conferences and one away from tying the Ivy League record for consecutive conference championships owned by Harvard with seven titles from 1987-1993.

The No. 10 spot is also where Penn was ranked by Inside Lacrosse in its 2013 Season Preview, while Lacrosse Magazine ranked the Quakers No. 11 heading into the season.

The Quakers, led by returning All-American Maddie Poplawski and fellow All-Ivy performers Meredith Cain, Taylor Foussadier, Lydia Miller and Courtney Tomchik, will return five of their top six scorers from 2012 and 10 starters from a team that has posted a 40-2 record inside the Ivy League over the last six seasons. The Red and Blue will undertake a challenging schedule as always with five of its 14 games coming against teams ranked inside the top 15 of the deBeer preseason poll - and three inside the top five.

Penn opens its 2013 season on Feb. 23 against University City rival Drexel at Franklin Field at 1 p.m.
