IWLCA Preseason Poll
PHILADELPHIA - Coming off a 2010 season which featured a fourth consecutive Ivy League championship, Penn finds itself again ranked high in the IWLCA Preseason Poll with a No. 6 ranking.
The Quakers are coming off a 13-6 season that included a berth in the NCAA Championships where Penn reached the quarterfinals before bowing out at the hands of eventual national champion Maryland.
The Terps are back at the top of the poll with 19 of a possible 20 first-place votes and 399 total votes. Northwestern picked up the other first-place vote and is second overall with 377 votes. Two ACC schools are third and fourth in North Carolina and Duke, respectively.
The Red and Blue will have a chance to improve their ranking early on as the No. 3 Tar Heels come to Franklin Field on March 5 at noon. North Carolina is one of six schools inside the preseason Top 20 that are on the docket for Penn this season. The Quakers are scheduled to play at No. 1 Maryland (Apr. 1, 7 p.m.), at No. 2 Northwestern (Apr. 10, 1 p.m.) and at No. 20 Hofstra (Mar. 9, 3 p.m.) in addition to the home games with UNC, No. 14 Dartmouth (Apr. 16, 1 p.m.) and the regular-season finale at Drexel's Vidas Field against No. 4 Duke (Apr. 29, 7 p.m.)
The 2011 season begins for Penn on Feb. 26 at home against Drexel at 3 p.m.
