Women's Rowers Enjoy Successful Summer

PHILADELPHIA - The summer rowing season has wrapped up with several members of the Penn women's rowing program achieving notable results.

Senior tri-captain Allison Kendall spent the summer rowing alongside Penn alums Natassya Bedos (C'10) for Penn's neighbor on Boathouse Row, Vesper Boat Club. Kendall sat the 7-seat and Bedos sat bow in Vesper's women's eight, which won the Open category at both the Schuylkill Navy Regatta and the the Independence Day Regatta.

At the USRowing Club Nationals, held July 13-17 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Vesper won the Senior Women's Eight, defeating the USRowing Pre-Elite Camp entry.

At the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, held in St. Catharines, Ontario in early August, Kendall raced against two of her teammates in the under-23 Eights category -- junior tri-captain Alison O'Connor and sophomore Megan Fitzgerald sat 4-seat and 2-seat, respectively, for Boston-based Community Rowing, Inc. (CRI). All three current Quakers medaled, as Vesper won gold and CRI earned silver. Kendall and Bedos went on to win the Senior Eight Dash, and finished a long week of racing in the Championship Eights where Vesper finished second to a strong Canadian national team entry.
