Women's Rowing Beaten by Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Penn women's rowing team was unable to best third-ranked Virginia in any of five races that were contested Saturday afternoon at the Cavalier's home course on the Rivanna Reservoir.

Racing against a slight chop and a strong headwind, the Virginia varsity eight clocked 6:48.5 over the 2,000-meter course to down Penn who finished in 7:16.0. In the second varsity eight race, UVA's 7:12.1 was ahead of Penn's 7:34.7.

Penn's closest finish came in the varsity four, where Virginia's 8:05.9 was ahead of Penn's 8:19.2.

In the third varsity eight, Penn covered the course in 7:32.2 to finish third among four boats; in the second four race, the Quakers clocked 8:37.6 and finished third out of threeboats.

Saturday's races were Penn's final tests before the EAWRC Sprints, which will take place Sunday, May 16 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
