PHILADELPHIA- After a fairly slow couple of weeks for a majority of the women's rowing team, things ramp up in a major way this weekend as the Quakers participate in two events.
On Saturday, Penn's freshmen and novice rowers will compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on their home course here in Philadelphia.
"I am looking forward to watching both our alumni and novice compete on Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill," said head coach Mike Lane. "It is a great festival in rowing and a great opportunity for our freshman to get out and be the center of attention! They have high expectations and hope to put down a quality mistake free race."
Following Saturday's races in Philadelphia, the women make the small journey North to participate in the Princeton Chase on Sunday. The Quakers will row eight boats at the Chase, five eights and three fours.
"Princeton Chase is the pinnacle of our fall racing season," said Lane. "We plan to go out on Sunday and put all the hard work we have been doing all fall to test. Coming off of a sweep of the Navy Day and a strong 11th-place finish at the Head of the Charles, we have all the confidence we could hope for as we head into Sunday's racing."
