Women's Rowing Faces No. 3 Virginia Saturday

Directions to UVA's Racecourse

PHILADELPHIA - In its final tune-up before Eastern Sprints on May 16, the Penn women's rowing team gets out of its usual Cup-race format of the spring. And what a way to diverge -- the Quakers face No. 3 Virginia in a dual meet on the Cavaliers' Lake Monticello racecourseSaturday beginning at noon. The varsity eight race will not take place until 1:20 p.m.

Virginia was ranked No. 1 nationally as recently as the April 14 poll, before being defeated that week by Princeton.

"This is our last regular-season race of the year, and it provides an opportunity to practice what we want to accomplish in two weeks at Eastern Sprints," said head coach Mike Lane. "Racing a program as good as Virginia is a great opportunity; they are one of the best teams in the country and we get the opportunity to let it hang out this weekend.

"We had a few breakthroughs last weekend, and want to continue that upward momentum as we strive to peak at Eastern Sprints in a few weeks."
