CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team completed its first day of competition at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday.
1st Varsity 8
Penn took fifth place in a seven-boat heat in the morning, covering the 2,000-meter course in 6:45.1. Cornell won the heat in 6:35.0, more than two secondsahead ofDuke (6:37.3) and Oregon State (6:37.6). Miami was fourth, in 6:45.1, while Tennessee wassixth and Michigan State was seventh.
In the afternoon, Penn was fourth in a six-boat heat at 6:28.8. Ohio State won the heat in 6:14.8, Clemson was second in 6:23.4 and Miami was third (6:26.7). Texas was fifth and Central Florida was sixth.
2nd Varsity 8
Penn was seventh in its morning heat, in 6:58.2. Cornell won the heat, in 6:40.8, followed by Oregon State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Miami, and Duke.
In the afternoon, Penn was third in 6:42.7 behind Ohio State (6:23.4) and Clemson (6:33.8). Miami was fourth (6:44.5), followed by Texas and Central Florida.
Varsity 4 A
Penn won its morning heat, a seven-boat race, in 7:34.0. That was just .5 seconds ahead of Oregon State, and 2.1 seconds ahead of Cornell. Duke was fourth, Michigan State was fifth, Tennessee was sixth and Miami was seventh.
In the afternoon, Penn placed third in 7:26.7 behind Ohio State (7:13.4) and Clemson (7:23.5). Texas was fourth, with Miami fifth and Central Florida sixth.
3rd Varsity 8
Penn took third in its heat in the morning; the Quakers covered the course in 7:11.2 and finished behind Michigan State (7:04.6) and Cornell (7:07.7). Oregon State was fourth, in 7:16.9, with Duke fifth and Miami sixth.
In the afternoon, Penn was fourth in its heat at 6:56.6,behind Clemson (6:45.0), Ohio State (6:45.0) and Texas (6:47.1). Central Florida was fifth, and Miami was sixth.
Varsity 4 B
Penn was fifth in its heat on Saturday morning, covering the course in 8:11.5. Michigan State won the heat, in 7:49.9, followed by Tennessee (7:55.0), Cornell (7:56.5) and Duke (8:01.5).
In the afternoon, Penn was fourth in a four-boat heat with a time of 7:56.3. Ohio State won the heat in 7:26.7, followed by Texas (7:41.8) and Clemson (7:53.5).
