LEONIA, N.J. -The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team took second to Yale in three of four races on Saturday as the Quakers, the Bulldogs and host Columbia rowed for the Connell Cup at Overpeck Park.
Penn was second in the Varsity 8+, the Second Varsity 8+, and the Varsity 4+; the Quakers were third in the only other race in which they competed, the Varsity 4B.
Yale's winning time in the Varsity 8+ was 7:13.1, well ahead of Penn (7:24.1) and Columbia (7:39.1).
In the Second Varsity 8+, Yale clocked 7:24.1 to beat Penn (7:29.6) and Columbia (7:33.6).
In the Varsity 4+, Yale's winning time was 8:19.3 while Penn was second (8:42.8) and Columbia was third (8:56.5).
Yale also won the Varsity 4B, in 8:44.6, while Columbia was second and Penn was third (9:22.3).
The women return to action next Saturday, taking part in the inaugural Doc Hosea Invitational in Saratoga, N.Y. As part of that event, the Quakers will race Syracuse and Northeastern for the Orange Challenge Cup.
