Women's Rowing Finishes Third in Connell Cup

PHILADELPHIA – In its first race of the spring, the University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing finished third at the Connell Cup against Yale and Columbia Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River.

Penn’s varsity eight finished the race in 5:57.9. Yale (5:48.0) won the race followed by Columbia (5:55.2).The Quakers second varsity eight came in second (6:08.4), behind Yale (6:00.0).

In the varsity four race, Yale placed first (6:38.2) followed by Penn (6:50.3) and Columbia (7:28.2). Penn’s novice eight narrowly edged out Columbia by a tenth of a second for second place. The Quakers crossed the finish line at 6:11.8, while the Lions trailed just behind at 6:11.9. Yale won the race finishing at 6:03.4.

Penn (6:50.3) came in second to Yale (6:38.2) in the varsityA four race. In the varsityB four race, the Quakers finished first, coming in at 6:49. 8, while the Bulldogs placed second at 6:53.6.

In the novice four race there was no official winner because Columbia’s boat flipped at the start line due to strong current. Penn’s B crew clocked at 3:51.

Penn will be home again next Saturday when they host Georgetown and George Washington.
