Women's Rowing Going to Head of the Charles

Head of the Charles Regatta information

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team will send two boats to the prestigious Head of the Charles this weekend. The 43rd annual races will take place Saturday and Sunday on the Charles River in Boston.

“This weekend is a great reward for the hard work both our varsity and freshman athletes have put in this fall,” said second-year head coach Mike Lane. “This is just one step forward in our quest to move above our fourth-place finish last spring at Sprints. The Head of the Charles is one of the biggest rowing events in the world and a lot of fun to be a part of. Racing at the Charles is a memory that our athletes will remember for a lifetime -- it is a special race.”

Both Quaker boats will race in the Women’s Championship 8+, which is the final event of the weekend and slated to begin around 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

“We are hoping both boats race an aggressive and dynamic race, as well as avoid other boats and bridges on their way up the course,” said Lane. “This will be a good challenge for our freshmen, as they will be racing among varsity-level crews including our own varsity eight.”
