PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team is coming off a busy weekend in Clemson, but there is no rest for the weary as the Quakers close out their Cup season on Saturday. The Class of 1984 Award Plaque is on the line as Penn hosts Dartmouth and No. 8 Princeton on the Schuylkill River.

These three schools have raced for the Plaque annually since 1985, with Princeton winning the Varsity 8 race every year except 1986 when Dartmouth took first place. On Saturday, the Varsity 8 will race at 10:40 a.m.

“Although we had a challenging weekend down in Clemson, our athletes came to work this week and prepared well for our final regular season race of our spring season,” said Penn’s head coach, Mike Lane. “Princeton and Dartmouth will present many challenges for us; however, we learned a great deal last weekend and are ready to put that our lessons on display Saturday.”

In addition to Saturday’s races, Penn will also say goodbye to its senior class on Saturday as they row their final home races. Following the races, at 1:30 p.m., the team will have a ceremony to honor the seniors at the boathouse.

“It is always sad but exciting to say goodbye to another class as they close this chapter of their lives,” said Lane. “Our seniors this year did an outstanding job creating a culture of hard work, positive attitudes and great teamwork. They will be hard to replace. That said, we still have at least three weeks left for them to continue leaving a lasting legacy after Saturday.”
