PRINCETON, N.J. –The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team finished the Cup portion of its spring season on Saturday, battling Princeton and Dartmouth for the Class of 1984 Plaque on Lake Carnegie. The Quakers went second in three of four races that featured both the Tigers and the Big Green, including the Varsity 8.
In the Varsity 8 race, Penn was timed in 6:51.3 over the 2,000-meter course and finished a little less than seven seconds behind No. 9 Princeton (6:44.5) but well ahead of third-place Dartmouth (7:13.8). Bucknell, which also had boats competing in the races today, was fourth in 7:17.0.
In the Second Varsity 8, Princeton’s 7:02.4 was ahead of Penn (7:07.2), but the Quakers were far ahead of Dartmouth (7:26.9) and Bucknell (7:40.0).
Penn also took second place in the Varsity 4 B race, clocking 8:04.5 which was behind champion Princeton (7:50.8) but ahead of third-place Bucknell (8:09.8) and fourth-place Dartmouth (8:17.4).
Penn’s third-place finish came in the Varsity 4 race, where Princeton (7:49.7) took first and Dartmouth (8:02.1) took second ahead of the Quakers (8:09.5). Penn did finish ahead of Bucknell (8:12.9).
In its first race this season, the Varsity 4 C boat earned a win; the Quakers were clocked at 8:45.2 and beat two Bucknell boats (9:02.7 and 9:25.0) and a Princeton boat (9:42.5).
Penn is now off until the Ivy League Championships, which will take place this year on Mercer Lake near Princeton on Sunday, May 15.
