Women's Rowing Takes Third of Four in Class of '84

PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team completed its regular season on Saturday, facing Princeton and Dartmouth for the Class of 1984 Award Plaque races. Tennessee joined in the fun, as well.

Penn's best finish came in the Varsity 4 race, where the Quakers finished second by just two seconds to Princeton; the Tigers clocked 7:39.7 on the 2,000-meter course, while Penn's time was 7:41.8. That was well ahead of Dartmouth (7:51.1) and Tennessee (7:56.8).

In the varsity 8 race, Princeton won easily in 6:24.2. That was almost 15 seconds ahead of Dartmouth (6:39.1) and nearly 20 seconds ahead of Penn (6:44.0). Tennessee was fourth, in 6:46.0.

In the second varsity 8, Princeotn (6:39.8) defeated Dartmouth (6:46.3), Tennessee (6:59.7) and Penn (7:10.7). The teams finished in the same order in the varsity 4 B race.

Penn and Princeton placed two boats each in the third/fourth varsity 8 race; the Tigers took the top two spots, ahead of the Quakers.

Penn now looks ahead to the second annual Ivy League Championships, which will be rowed on Sunday, May 19 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
