PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team took third place in the Varsity 8 at the Connell Cup but second in all four other races contested Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River.
Yale took first place in the Varsity 8 race on Saturday, clocking 6:12.3 over the 2,000-meter course. Columbia was second in 6:28.5, while Penn placed third in 6:34.9.
In the second varsity 8 race, Penn's time of 6:29.4 was behind winner Yale (6:13.7) but just ahead of third-place Columbia (6:32.5).
In the Varsity 4 A, Penn again nipped Columbia for second place; the Quakers were timed in 7:03.9, the Lions in 7:04.1. Yale won the race in 6:55.7.
In the Varsity 4 B race, Yale won in 7:01.2, followed by Penn (7:23.3) and Columbia (7:29.2).
Penn and Yale were the only contestants in the third varsity 8 race, with the Bulldogs clocking 6:26.8 to beat the Quakers.
Penn returns to action next weekend in the Orange Challenge Cup.
