Women's Rowing Varsity Earns National Ranking

Complete USRowing/CRCA Rankings

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women’s rowing team varsity eight earned its first national ranking under second-year head coach Mike Lane. The Quakers are ranked 20th in this week’s USRowing/CRCA national coaches’ poll, which was released this morning.

The Quakers earned the ranking off a strong performance last weekend, whenthey faced then-No. 1 Yale and lost to the Bulldogs by a mere 2.8 seconds over the 2,000-meter course in Derby, Conn. Yaledropped to No. 2 this week, behind California.

“Today is an exciting day for our program,” said Lane. “Our athletes have worked very hard to receive this recognition, but now we need to work even harder to stay in the top 20. We are no longer flying under the radar, so the pressure is ramped up a bit.”

Penn’s next race takes place Saturday, April 12 in Boston, when the Quakers compete with Northeastern and Syracuse in the Orange Challenge Cup.
