Derby, Conn. The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team opened the 2005 spring season at the Connell Cup hosted by Yale and featuring Columbia this afternoon on the Housatonic River.
Despite a straight head wind and slightly choppy waters, the Red and Blue captured the varsity four with a time of 8:05.7. Yale had two boats take second and third with times of 8:09.2 and 8:10.04, while Columbia took fourth.
Penn’s second varsity eight finished second in a time of 7:03.7 behind the Elis who placed first with a time of 6:53.2.
The varsity eight took third with a time of 6:58.5. Yale captured the event by clocking a 6:41.1, while Columbia placed second with a time of 6:49.8
In the novice eight, Columbia captured the top sport with a time of 6:56.3, while Yale placed second with a time of 7:00.6. Penn finished third in 7:22.8.
Penn is back on the water on April 9 as it competes against Northeastern and Syracuse for the Orange Challenge Cup.
